Let's Talk : Candle Care

Everyone loves a good candle, but do you know how to care for it?
That seems like a silly question at first. But, candle care is incredibly important for overall safety of you! Here are some tips and tricks to have your candles burning safer and longer.

Trim those wicks!!!
Yes, you have to physically trim those wicks before you light that candle. Every. Single. Time. Why? It reduces ash, soot, and creates a fresh burn for the candle flame. The height of the flame will be greatly reduced by trimming the wick as well.
Burn to the edge
Burning the candle to the edge of the jar every time is so important. Why? This creates an event melting pool on the candle. This helps it to burn evenly every time. If you do not burn to the edge with each burn it could increase the chances that your candle will tunnel, or create those ledges of built up wax that you have to scrape down just to keep the candle going. So, burn to the edge each time!
Burn for 4hrs
The time of a candle is closely related to the the tip above. It can take some candles around 4hrs of burning to get the edge each time. So, a handmade/homemade soy candle is recommended to burn for 4hrs each session.
Safe Location
Be sure that you are placing your candle in a safe location to burn. This could be up on a counter top, on a candle riser on a table, an entry way table, kitchen table, etc. Just be sure that pets and children cannot reach the candle and no other flammable objects are near!
